The Galata Museo del Mare, curated by Mu.MA and managed by Costa Edutainment, is located in Genoa and is the largest maritime museum in the Mediterranean that allows you to take a journey through the history of navigation.
The museum is housed in Palazzo Galata, whose renovation was entrusted to the Spanish architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra.
Here you can admire some autograph documents of Christopher Columbus, an original Genoese galley, and the raft with which Ambrogio Fogar and Mauro Mancini saved themselves after being hit by a storm off the Falkland Islands in the South of the Atlantic Ocean.
The experience continues with the great ocean crossing of Italian migrants aboard steamships to America, Brazil, and Argentina: inside this pavilion - MeM Memories and Migrations - a section is entirely dedicated to contemporary immigration (renewed since June 2016). Navigation above but also below the sea with the exclusive visit of the submarine Nazario Sauro, the first museum ship in Italy visitable in water. The public can also virtually relive the experience of a shipwreck at Cape Horn in the new 4D Storm Room.
