The National Portrait Gallery in London is one of the most famous art galleries in the United Kingdom, located in St. Martin's Place, just behind the National Gallery.
It is among the 20 most visited museums in the world, with more than 2 million visitors in 2012. Inside it houses one of the largest collections of portraits in the world : the exhibition is spread over three floors and includes works from the Renaissance to contemporary era. The "Primary Collection" contains more than 12,700 portraits. Of these, over 4,100 are paintings, sculptures and miniatures.
