SoutHeritage Foundation as an institution animated by the desire to contribute to cultural development to produce expanded knowledge and multidisciplinary narratives through the values of contemporary art and culture, in collaboration with Fondazione Basilicata-Matera2019, presents an exhibition project dedicated to the theme of Radical Design which in a period of uncertainty and instability such as today represents a possible example of dialectical relevance on which to return to reflect. The Radical experience as a cultural practice coinciding with a historical moment in which creativity was called to replace the collapse of the great systems of political and planning certainties, in fact represents a possible dialectical and creative vector to confirm the centrality of a concept of art ( self)educational which, today more than ever, must possibly belong to everyone.

In this context the project: “Into the open: polyphonies, acts of design, radical logics and (UGO LA PIETRA) in brackets”, starting from the figure and research of the architect, designer and artist *Ugo La Pietra wants to present a focus on the themes of the experimental design program “Global Tools” co-founded in the Seventies by La Pietra together with other members of Architettura Radicale (including Andrea Branzi, Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, Gianni Pettena, Superstudio and UFO) and by representatives of Arte Povera and Conceptual Art (including Germano Celant, Luciano Fabro and Giuseppe Chiari).

This program, designed to stimulate the free development of individual and collective creativity, in a context of the educational centrality of art, also represented the platform of an important pillar project of the cultural program "Matera European Capital of Culture 2019" which is the '"Open Design School", born from an idea by Joseph Grima and who intended to explore the distinctive aspects of this program in his workshops and creations.

In order to build a set of critical suggestions on the different movements of radical architecture, the project, in addition to some works by Ugo La Pietra, also presents two in situ installations relating to the themes of co-planning, open-design, interactivity, of Km0 and of local and global traceability, aimed at highlighting the characteristics of this historical movement and the context of contemporary practices, reallocating its tools, methods and actions.
