Birthplace Museum of Michelangelo Buonarroti

This castle, perched amidst the greenery of the Apennines in Tuscany, is the birthplace of one of the greatest artists of all time, Michelangelo Buonarroti, who was born here on 6 March 1475. The site retains a large part of the fortifications and some buildings interior. Among these is the Palazzo della “Podesteria”, the house where Michelangelo Buonarroti was born. The entire complex is a museum and houses works by personalities in sculpture such as Emilio Greco, Vincenzo Gemito, Medardo Rosso, Canova. It is part of the historical collection of the museum, formed starting from 1875, a substantial plaster cast collection of works by Michelangelo.
