The show

Raffaello Sanzio, genius of the Renaissance and one of the greatest artists of all time, was above all a painter, but perhaps not everyone knows that the beauty and grace of his works, as happened also for his great teacher Perugino, were a great source of inspiration for the art of ceramics, an art that had and still has in Umbria one of the most elected territories.

From the last quarter of the fifteenth century and up to the first decades of the following century, glazed majolica represented the excellence of Italian master potters, in particular those of the two Umbrian towns of Deruta and Gubbio. Quickly, starting from the twenties of the sixteenth century, a new typology was established that modern ceramological literature includes in historiates, strongly influenced by the painting of Raffaello Sanzio and favored by the great diffusion of Marcantonio Raimondi's prints which reproduced drawings and works, making easily accessible paintings by the master from Urbino otherwise difficult to approach.
