Description

The Invernizzi Collection possesses a significant nucleus of works by Carlo Nangeroni. The artist, born in New York, moved to Italy at a young age with his brother. In 1944 the two are forced to flee to Switzerland, on suspicion of being American paratroopers. In Bellinzona, Carlo Nangeroni meets Lino Invernizzi for the first time. The artist says: "They put us to rest in a hall that looked like a stage with all the straw mattresses. I had a bad foot because of the mountain and I had taken a rest and then I heard music, like a radio ... and there was this gentleman who was Lino Invernizzi to whom I said that it wasn't exactly the music I wanted to hear ... And then we started chatting. There an amazing friendship began ". Before returning to the United States, where Carlo Nangeroni lived from 1946 to 1958, the two meet again in Genoa, and then meet again in New York on the occasion of the Nangeroni exhibition at the Meltzer Gallery. Returning to Italy in 1958 and abandoning the experiences of a material-expressionist matrix, the artist in the early sixties directs his research towards a new geometric rigor, centered on the chromatic-perceptive variations of modular structures, always based on a precise geometric construction. space. The circles completely invade the plane through a cellular texture, to create real dynamic paths. "This iteration of the circular element - says Nangeroni - corresponds to a trellis-guide which I then unwind on the surface". "Repeating the circle fills the surface, thus providing an indication of the possibility of expansion beyond the edges of the support".
