The show

Museion Bolzano and Mart Rovereto present a double exhibition on the Archive of New Writing (ANS), the collection of Paolo Della Grazia dedicated to research between word and image, with particular attention to the movements of visual and visual Poetry, Concrete Poetry and Fluxus. In 1998 the collector decided to place his collection, one of the most important in the sector worldwide, in Rovereto and Bolzano, to favor its study and enhancement. Hence the double exhibition - "Intermedia. Archive of New Writing", which develops simultaneously in the two museums.

"Intermedia" presents almost two hundred works by seventy artists, in a path that, starting from the history and activity of the ArchiviodiNuovaScrettura, links the different nuclei of works - from concrete poetry to Fluxus to visual and visual poetry - in the light of the concept of intermediality. Used in 1965 by the artist Dick Higgins, the term intermediate defines fluid artistic forms, which overcome the traditional separation between genres. In this sense, Intermedia takes on the connotation of an unexplored land, which is located between collage, music, theater, visual arts. At the same time, the exhibition intends to contextualize the artistic production of verbal-visual experiences, underlining their international scope and the connection with other contemporary artistic research.

“In the years from 1960 to 1980 the country was traversed by the economic boom, by the protest of '68 and then by the dramatic period of terrorism. I thought that the works and writings of Italian and foreign verbovisual artists reflected those moments and represented them according to an unprecedented and profound perspective, different from that of the bourgeois and entrepreneurial society in which I had grown up, lived and worked. " So Paolo Della Grazia about his collection.

“With their fractures, dissonances, contaminations and counter-narratives, the languages of visual poetry represented and still represent spaces of freedom from conformity. In a historical moment of easy slogans, I believe that the task of a cultural institution lies precisely in the ability to draw attention to this type of interstices and make the gray areas appreciable: that idea of an "in-between" professed by the Creole philosopher Eduard Glissant, to whom Museion has repeatedly voted. In this sense, the exhibition is not only a tribute to the figure of Paolo Della Grazia and his vision as a collector, but reaffirms how the Italian and international linguistic revolution of the 1960s and 1970s is more relevant than ever "- so Letizia Ragaglia, director by Museion.
