The Provincial Archaeological Museum Francesco Ribezzo of Brindisi is located in the historic center of the city, in Piazza Duomo. The Museum takes its name from the homonymous archaeologist Francesco Ribezzo and was inaugurated in 1958. The exhibition is divided into different thematic sections: antiquarian, epigraphic and statuary, from prehistory to the Messapians, Roman Brindisi and underwater archeology. Among the exhibits there are oil lamps, glass, coins, bronzes, ceramics, votive terracotta, coins and antefixes. Of great value are certainly the sections from prehistory to Roman Brindisi which include finds of various styles and eras. Among the most important finds we mention the Messianic trozzplla vases, the golden laminate, the red-figure vases, the clay disk with Eros and two large composite capitals. The Underwater section is dedicated to underwater archeology where numerous amphorae recovered at different times along the Brindisi coast are exhibited. Of historical interest are the Bronzes of Punta del Serrone found in the port of Brindisi in 1972.
