Description

These objects come from a large sepulchral area identified in 1888 but already known, which due to the chronology of the materials recovered, together with the suggestions of a “topographical” order, was considered pertinent to the necropolis of Thurii. These are two skyphoid pyxes and two lids decorated with red figures, where fan-shaped palmettes with leaves rising from an overpainted triangular central core and bounded by volute spirals, often overpainted, alternate with female profiles with hair gathered in a decorated kekryphalos with dots and with over-painted stephanes, not always well preserved. Other overpaintings emphasize the ribbons that tie the kekryphalos and the necklace around the neck of the female figures.
