Description

The Kayapò have a complex system of celebrations; one of the most emblematic rituals of passage is the initiation rite "me-î-tuk" or "bearers of the black bracelet", which denotes the passage of boys from puberty to youth. These ornaments are worn by children both during their presentation to the community and during the naming ritual, which allows them to receive the special and beautiful name that will accompany them throughout their lives. The bracelets feature geometric design decorations in bark fibers. From them hang clusters of woody seeds, painted of urucum, held together by pendants of glass beads and parrot feathers.
