Museo Nazionale Collezione Salce

The National Salce Collection Museum preserves the largest collection of advertising graphics existing in Italy, donated to the Italian State by Ferdinando Salce (1877-1962) from Treviso, called Nando, with a will dated April 26, 1962.
The accountant greets from an early age an uncontainable passion for the illustrated posters and thanks to the wealthy economic condition of the family is dedicated to collecting in an almost exclusive way. In 1895, at only 18 years of age, he purchased Giovanni Maria Mataloni's Auer patent gas incandescence, the first poster in his collection. Since then he will never stop: during his lifetime he will collect about 25,000 pieces, preserved until his death in the attic of his house in Piazza Mazzini, in the historic center of Treviso.
For decades the collection has not benefited from its own exhibition space and its knowledge has remained entrusted to temporary exhibition events. In 2014 it became a permanent museum, with the headquarters of the San Gaetano complex and accessible to the public since May 2017. The Santa Margherita complex, for conservation and enhancement purposes, will instead be completed in 2020.
The museum is divided into four floors which house service spaces and display areas specially designed for graphic materials. The museum offer does not have a fixed configuration: for scientific choice and for conservative reasons, the materials of the collection are displayed in rotation in temporary thematic or monographic exhibitions.
The entrance to the museum overlooks the churchyard of the church of S. Gaetano / S. Giovanni al Tempio. Inside you can admire a rich picture gallery, with paintings by Ludovico Pozzoserrato and Giovanni Battista Canal and the eighteenth-century organ by Gaetano Callido, one of the most precious instruments in the city.
