Museo del Violino

Cremona has been the capital of violin making for five centuries. At the Museum of the Violin it is possible to discover the fascinating history of this high craftsmanship excellence through the direct encounter with the great Masters and their masterpieces, following a balanced trail of creativity and territory, skill and knowledge that reaches from the late Renaissance workshops until today. .

In the “Treasure chest” and in the “friends of Stradivari” room, works by Amati, Stradivari, Guarneri are exhibited: it is a unique collection in the world. Moreover, only here you can admire over 700 drawings, shapes and tools used by Antonio Stradivari in his workshop.
Between the 19th and 20th centuries, the Cremonese classical school inspired the work of important Italian builders, presented in a dedicated section. Finally, violins, violas, cellos and double basses, winners of the International Triennial Competition, considered an authentic Olympiad, testify to the eclectic vivacity and topicality of violin making.
The natural stage for these magnificent instruments is the Giovanni Arvedi Auditorium: a unique and exciting place, where aesthetics and function find perfect synthesis. The geometry of the spaces combines soft volumes; sinuous lines chase each other and draw a large organic sculpture that expresses the propagation of sound waves.
Precious objects, a rich set of documents and multimedia installations, concerts allow each visitor to create an evocative and engaging path where instruments, sounds, perfumes and images combine to give shape to history, dreams and emotions.
