Strada Nuova Museums, Palazzo Rosso

The UNESCO World Heritage Site Via Garibaldi – the baroque Strada Nuova dating back from the Italian Rinascimento – is the extraordinary setting of a unique itinerary connecting three important Genoese buildings: the Palazzo Rosso, the Palazzo Bianco and the Palazzo Doria Tursi.
The Palazzo Rosso, a noble stately home decorated with frescoes by the greatest Ligurian painters of the 17th century and precious furnishings, houses an extensive painting collection, including the works collected by the Brignole-Sale family for over two centuries. The Gallery of this Genoese aristocratic building features works of art by Dürer, Veronese, Guercino, Strozzi, Grechetto, Van Dyck, and many others. The wonderful painting collection donated by the Duchess of Galliera to the Municipality of Genoa in 1874, together with the furnishings of the Palazzo Rosso, had been collected by the Brignole-Sale family through a wise policy of acquisitions and commissions for over two centuries, so as to mark their social, economic and political rise.
