The show

The exhibition presents for the first time to the public three works purchased in recent years by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and for Tourism and destined for the National Gallery of Liguria in Palazzo Spinola, alongside others that, with an enlightened spirit, are on the other hand, they have been granted in deposit to the museum by various realities, including private ones. This group of panels, created between the second half of the fifteenth century and the beginning of the following century by Giovanni Mazone, Nicolò Corso, Carlo Braccesco, Ludovico Brea and Agostino Bombelli, significantly increases the contents of the National Gallery of Liguria, whose heritage it is mainly made up of works dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that interact closely with the paintings preserved for centuries in the rooms of the palace that belonged to the Marquises of Spinola.

The tables on display , therefore, represent precious pieces for the knowledge of an otherwise poorly documented era in the home of Pellicceria. A lively and varied period from the point of view of artistic production, in which Genoa, thanks to the refined taste of rich and demanding clients looking for productions of the highest quality, was chosen by many "foreign" artists from different territorial contexts, including which Lombardy and Piedmont, as a center to start your own business. Real entrepreneurs at the head of well-established workshops interpreting the multifaceted figurative culture that has characterized the Ligurian context for many decades from the mid-fifteenth century to the beginning of the following century.

The works exhibited on this occasion , with the sole exception of the two predella fragments referring to Mazone whose ancient relevance is not known for now, are related to single specific episodes of the artists' figurative path. These are commissions that contribute significantly to the reconstruction of the biographical events of the painters and to better define their versatile and diversified temperament.
