The archaeological section of the Civic Museum of Belluno, housed in two rooms located on the ground floor of the historic building of the Collegio dei Giuristi, exhibits finds documenting the long history of the province from the Middle Palaeolithic to the Early Middle Ages, the result of excavations and discoveries carried out starting from from the second half of the 19th century.

Important archaeological finds from the entire Province are exhibited, among which the burial of a hunter found in Val Cismon (BL) and datable to the end of the Upper Paleolithic (12,000 years ago), whose pit was covered with stones is of great interest. painted in red ocher. There are evidence of the Iron Age, largely consisting of findings from the nineteenth-century excavation of a necropolis near Cavarzano (fibulae, knives and bronze objects) and subsequent excavations carried out in neighboring areas. There are also numerous finds from the Roman and Early Middle Ages: the two grave goods from the Lombard period, found respectively in Mel and Sospirolo, are worthy of note.
