The show

It has always been assumed that Venice is the ideal city for a honeymoon, but that is a serious mistake. Coming to Venice, or simply visiting it, means falling in love with it and there is no room left for anything else in the heart. (Peggy Guggenheim, A life for art)

With "Peggy Guggenheim. The last Dogaressa" the Peggy Guggenheim Collection celebrates the Venetian life of its founder, marking the exhibitions and events that marked those thirty years spent in the lagoon, from 1948 to 1979, which later proved to be authentic. milestones in the history of 20th century art.
The exhibition focuses on the patron's post-1948 collecting , after her departure from New York, the closure of the Art of This Century gallery-museum (1942-47) and the move to Venice. About sixty works are exhibited, including paintings, sculptures and works on paper, selected from those acquired during the 1940s and 1979, the year of his death, by well-known and lesser-known artists in the collection.
