The show

Curated by Giovanna Mori, with Carlo Catturini and Ilaria Torelli

The exhibition E Sciascia che ne dice?» Omaggio a Leonardo Sciascia e Mino Maccari, a 30 anni dalla morte, is part of the cycle "The Passions of Sciascia" and was inaugurated on the occasion of the Leonardo Sciascia Amateur D’estampes Award.
The award, created in 1998 by Francesco Izzo and Gian Franco Grechi and promoted by the Friends of Leonardo Sciascia association together with the Civic Collection of Prints “A. Bertarelli ", is an international competition, held every two years, set up to commemorate the attention paid by the writer Leonardo Sciascia to the original art recording.

Twenty-nine works were presented for this edition, performed by artists from fifteen countries. All the engravings are exhibited, from February 9th to February 29th 2019, at the new exhibition spaces of the Federica Galli Foundation, a Lombard artist, former member of the Sciascia Award Jury, which was particularly appreciated by Leonardo Sciascia. Finally, all the works will become part of the collection of the Civic Print Collection "A. Bertarelli "of which the Amici di Sciascia have become, over time, regular donors, earning the recognition of Benefactor of the city of Milan since 2004.

The exhibition is dedicated to the intense friendship between the Sicilian writer and the Tuscan artist and organized by the Municipality of Milan (Culture Directorate - Castello Superintendency, Archaeological Museums and Historical Museums) - Print Collection "A. Bertarelli "in collaboration with the Association of Friends of Leonardo Sciascia.
The review collects drawings, engravings, photographs, books, magazines, diary pages and even unpublished, rare and missing letters and other sheets, for the first time arranged in a path that helps to reconstruct, thirty years after his death, the friendship between two heretics and eccentric narrators, each in his own way, of our twentieth century: Mino Maccari (Siena 1898 - Rome 1989) and Leonardo Sciascia (Racalmuto 1921 - Palermo 1989). The exhibition is completed by a selection of sixteen works by Maccari present at the Collection, purchased by the Municipality of Milan between 1950 and 1961, which want to offer a significant sample of the vast graphic production of the artist, completed in the years immediately preceding the birth of the friendship between Maccari and Sciascia. The exhibition is accompanied by the plaquette-catalog «And what does Sciascia say?». This is the catalog, edited by Francesco Izzo for the Friends of Sciascia (Leo S. Olschki, 2019, series "Smara", 1) with writings by Leonardo Sciascia and Mino Maccari, and interventions by Luigi Cavallo, Fortunato Grosso, Francesco Izzo, Giovanna Mori, Marco Vallora. The catalog will be available for sale.
