The show

Until 6 January 2021 at Villa Bernasconi the visit itinerary is enriched by eight works by some of the most famous painters and illustrators of Art Nouveau.

At the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries , feminine beauty and that of nature were not intended only as pure decoration, but interpreted the dream of a universe of elegance and harmony to be sought in the home. Coming from the collection of the Arte Nova Foundation, the large and rare lithograph on canvas by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) entitled "Les fleurs", created for Home Décor in 1894, shows us the Parisian debut of the Czech artist, at the beginning of his career as an illustrator, as evidenced by the style of this work, still distant from the posters that made him famous and created before his meeting with Sarah Bernardt. An encounter that was mutually beneficial: for the painter's career, who portrayed her under a six-year contract from 1895 to 1900, and for the actress's notoriety, also acquired thanks to Mucha's posters. Three lithographs on paper, from a series of four, from 1898, also by Mucha, interact with this work, representing women with flowers: the carnation, the iris and the rose.

By Paul Berthon (1872-1909), French painter and illustrator, there is a lithograph on paper entitled “Les bulles de neiges” , from the early twentieth century. Influenced by Eugène Grasset in the style, her production is characterized by its own recognizability, characterized by pastel colors and sharp outlines. Due to his untimely death at the age of 36, the catalog of his works is limited to a few hundred lithographs, chromolithographs and woodcuts.
