Villa Saffi

At Villa Saffi, Aurelio, a close friend of Giuseppe Mazzini, triumvir of the Roman Republic, loved to reside and died in this very place, on 10 April 1890. The building had been a Jesuit convent and became the property of the Saffi family in 1740, purchased by Tommaso, Aurelio's great-grandfather, who made it his holiday residence. The Villa   it is part of the "Case Museum of poets and writers of Romagna" circuit and of the national association "Case della Memoria" and preserves period furnishings, books and memorabilia of extraordinary interest, including by Mazzini, who was a guest there on several occasions . The Villa surrounded by a park of plane trees, cypresses, magnolias and other ancient trees, was also the seat of secret meetings of the Carbonari and, as such, indicated in coded language as "Sale of Amaranth".
