The Koninklijk Paleis or the Royal Palace of Amsterdam , is a historic building in Amsterdam.
Located in Dam square, it is also known as the Amsterdam City Hall as it was built to house the City Hall, and was later transformed into a royal residence. The Koninklijk Paleis is a perfect example of Dutch Baroque architecture and also represents the most important historical and cultural monument of the entire Dutch Golden Age, as well as being Jacob van Campen's masterpiece.
The palace is built on a rectangular plan around two courtyards separated by a transverse wing entirely occupied by the Burgerzaal, the "Civic Hall".
The Galleries have a rich sculptural decoration and at its ends presents the high reliefs of the secondary planets linked to the gods: Diana (Moon), Mercury, Jupiter, Apollo, Mars, Venus, Saturn and Cybele (Earth)
