Description

The three floors, discovered during some building works in via Circo 1 as early as 1877 (but torn, restored and reassembled only in 1967), were to decorate three rooms of a rich residential complex dating back to the second half of the 2nd century AD; the domus was part of an urban sector characterized by numerous and luxurious houses, built towards the end of the 1st century BC. and then continuously renovated until the III-IV century AD, when they will be partially demolished to make room for the imposing architectural bulk of the Maximian imperial palace. The current arrangement of the mosaics reflects the original one, although the position of the passages between the different rooms is hypothetical. Floor A has a geometric structure based on a central disc pattern, with limited polychromy.
