In 1304, Charles II of Anjou commissioned the Reliquary bust of San Gennaro which is still found in the Chapel today, as an ex voto to celebrate the sanctioned peace with the Aragonese.
The bust cost a good 6,732 lilies! To make it happen, Charles II had some trusted goldsmiths arrive from France who gave birth to a real court atelier and formed the first nucleus of what with Joan of Anjou, almost eighty years later, would become the Guild of Goldsmiths based in the bell tower of Sant'Eligio, the heart of the Borgo degli Orefici.
