Naturalistic-inspired jewels were very popular in the second half of the nineteenth century. The element that characterized them was the search, often bordering on virtuosity, for an accentuated realism that lasted for several decades until it resulted in the fascinating interpretations of Art Nouveau. This exuberant and precious orchid in gold and polychrome enamels from the prestigious Janesich company in Trieste is part of the always beloved floral subjects. The magnificent jewel, which seems to be affected by the preference, typical of the Eighties, for unusual or exotic plant essences and flowers, appears inspired by the famous series of orchids created by Tiffany for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889. This is not surprising from the since the attention to the most recent innovations presented internationally was a constant in the production of the Janesich company, the only one in the region to have regular relations with the most important Parisian fashion houses.
