Kan Yasuda 安田侃 was born in 1945 in Bibai, on the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan. He studied Art at the Iwamizawa Campus of Hokkaido University of Education and obtained a Master's degree in Sculpture with Yasutake Funakoshi at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. In 1970, he moved to Italy with a scholarship from the Italian government and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome with Pericle Fazzini. A few years later, he settled in Pietrasanta, renowned for its marble tradition, where he still lives and works. His marble and bronze sculptures establish a deep dialogue with space and light. In 1992, the Museum of Sculpture Arte Piazza Bibai - Kan Yasuda was inaugurated in his hometown. In 2000, he designed the set for Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly and in November 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Isamu Noguchi Prize.
