In the lunette of the right wall with the "Stories of Saint Stephen" is the Dispute of Saint Stephen, in which the saint, intent on illustrating the principles of the new faith, is at the center of the composition, against a background of a dome and flying arches, a curious synthesis between Gothic memories and solutions of a Renaissance character; around him, two groups of people gather, reacting in various ways to the motivations of the martyr, with winks, snorts, wide-eyed looks. The characters are dressed in various fifteenth-century styles: the bearded figure to the right of the saint, in the wide sleeves of the robe, displays a luxurious ermine lining, while others show off cylindrical headgear, customary for the painter in his numerous perspective studies.
