Robert Mapplethorpe was an American photographer. Most of his photos were taken in a studio. His most common themes were portraits of celebrities, sadomasochistic subjects, and studies of nudity often male and homoerotic, with the notable exceptions of the female nude series of bodybuilder Lisa Lyon.
