From 3 May to 13 October 2018
From 3 May 2018 to 13 October of the same year, the exhibition "Moda i Modistes" was set up in the museum at the Museum of the History of Catalonia.
This exhibition is the result of the collaboration between the Museum of History of Catalonia and the Antoni de Montpalau Foundation to highlight the work of seamstresses during the 20th century.
A profession, carried out above all by women, which has been a platform for women's emancipation in the field of work and business, as well as in the creative one. Furthermore, the seamstresses would be the great popularizers of fashion and, with their activity, they would move a very important part of the textile industry and trade.
Their hard work required knowledge, skill and dedication and was often barely noticeable, aside from leading designers and brands.
Moda y modistas presents a broad look at the work and career of so many women who have often remained anonymous beyond their respective oral family memories or the increasingly faded memory of their old clientele.
