The Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya de Barcelona (also known as Mac) is the most important archaeological museum in Barcelona. It is based within the Motjuic Park and is one of the several locations that make up the MAC (Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya) network which includes archaeological sites and museums distributed throughout the region.
The museum is dedicated and contains artifacts and documents that tell a time span that goes from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. Its collection is divided into five sections: Prehistory, Phoenicians and Greeks, Iberian Culture, Rome and the Visigoths; the exhibition on permanent display presents mainly objects found in the Catalan territory supplemented by explanatory panels that provide the visitor with the historical context.
MAC Barcelona also organizes temporary exhibitions, special events, conferences, guided tours and educational activities and is also an important restoration center.
