The Museu Frederic Marès is a small museum in Barcelona, located in a part of the Royal Palace of the Counts of Barcelona.
The museum bears the name and holds the collections of its founder, the sculptor Frederic Marès (1893-1991). When Frederic Marès was alive he collected a large collection of Hispanic sculpture, from antiquity to the nineteenth century, with particular attention to polychrome religious carving, so much so that the sculptures with these characteristics make up the most homogeneous section of the Museum. From the beginning, Marès has also donated a large part of his sculptural work, which is exhibited in his Studio-library. Here are preserved tens of thousands of objects that tell the ways of life and customs of the past, mainly of the nineteenth century including: fans, pipes, watches, jewels, photographs, toys, locks, apothecary jars and reliquaries, which, presented in a intimate atmosphere, evoke the particular universe of Marès.
