The path One Gallery, Many Collections returns the richness and eclecticism of the modern and contemporary art heritage of the city of Bergamo.

The exhibition, designed to accompany the public towards the opening of the future headquarters of the Gallery, presents the museum collections from a different perspective than that investigated by the cycle The Impermanent Collection, the research, exhibition, and laboratory platform within which from 2018 to 2023 GAMeC has presented a series of temporary exhibitions with the aim of stimulating a reflection on the dynamic nature of its own Collections.

One Gallery, Many Collections indeed aims to highlight the differences among the multiple nuclei that make up the museum collections, engaging in a dialogue, without following a chronological sequence, works by masters of Italian and international 20th-century art with works by contemporary artists, in a path that unfolds in the nine exhibition rooms.

Nuclei that intrinsically manifest a variety of languages, styles, currents, and perspectives often distant from each other, revealing at the same time traits of their origin: the taste of collectors, their visions of the past or the contemporary, the search for authors who have been showcased in temporary exhibitions, or even initiatives promoting the work of artists and curators carried out by the institution.

The exhibition project, curated by Maurizio Bosa, translates the dynamic idea of "showcasing" what is preserved in the Gallery's deposits into a spatial and morphological metaphor. The structures, in deliberately untreated light wood, consist of shelves on which the works rest and slide, and bases and supports that, simulating open boxes, provide new perspectives from which to observe the exhibited works.

The rooms house paintings by 20th-century authors, part of the Gianfranco and Luigia Spajani Collection, a selection of works by Giacomo Manzù and the Stucchi Collection, focused on the 1950s and 1960s, and a significant nucleus of works dating back to the second half of the 20th century, confiscated in Lombardy and managed by the National Agency for the administration of seized assets.

Also on display, a selection of donations from artists and collectors of the new millennium, including works that have become part of the museum's heritage thanks to important funds and prizes: the Lorenzo Bonaldi Prize for Art - EnterPrize, an international recognition that GAMeC has dedicated to curators under 30 since 2003; the Meru Art*Science Award, which has been supporting artists investigating the link between art and science for over ten years; the Club GAMeC Prize, created in 2016 by the friends of the Gallery association, which rewards the work of young Italian artists; and the Fund named after the collector Arturo Toffetti, which has made it possible to carry out important solo exhibitions dedicated to contemporary artists.

The exhibition is complemented by a series of photographs from the Lanfranco Colombo Collection and some examples of medals and related models donated by Vittorio Lorioli.
