The Musée Comtois is one of the three museums located inside the Citadelle, the military fortress overlooking Besançon built at the behest of the Sun King and today protected as a World Heritage Site. The Musée Comtois is an ethnographic museum, which invites you to understand and get to know the society of the Franche-Comté territory, asking questions about the continuous social and economic changes taking place in the contemporary world. The museum's temporary exhibitions allow us to understand how men have adapted to the territory over the centuries. The museum itinerary is divided into 17 rooms divided into 3 floors. There are numerous objects dating back mainly to the late nineteenth century. The top floor features an exceptional collection of puppets, showing their strong use in the rooted satirical tradition of the area. The collection shows the creative richness and freedom of expression, values dear to the spirits of Franche-Comté. There are also numerous photographs.
