KUB | Kunsthaus Bregenz The Kunsthaus Bregenz is an internationally active institution for presenting outstanding contemporary art. Thanks to its sophisticated exhibition program and unique architecture, the KUB enjoys international recognition in the art and architecture world. It was designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor on behalf of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and built between 1990 and 1997. Peter Zumthor won the Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture for the Kunsthaus in 1998. In 2009, he was honored with the Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award for architects. Artists are invited to react to the building's architecture or even enter into a symbiosis with it. For this reason, a large part of the exhibited works are created on-site and specifically for the house. The exhibitions and projects of the Kunsthaus Bregenz make it possible to bring the artists' ideas to life. The boundaries of what is feasible and imaginable shift continuously with each exhibition. From the artists' initial visions – rough hand sketches or small models – precise executed projects develop. Such projects are only possible thanks to a trusting collaboration between the technical team, the artist and curator, as well as the entire staff of the Kunsthaus. The artists also work closely with partners from the local industry and small craft businesses. The exceptionally high quality and flexibility of the Vorarlberg companies have been repeatedly praised by the invited artists. To date, the Kunsthaus Bregenz has provided space for new and sometimes unique works to over a hundred artists from around the world, establishing the KUB as an internationally renowned institution for contemporary art.
