From 12 July to 29 October 2023
The Boxer and the Victory: the two extraordinary bronzes from the Hellenistic and Roman ages together for the first time in Brescia, in a precious dialogue on the meaning of "victory", from sporting Nike to emblem of the pax latina, in a cultural comparison between two masterpieces absolutes of universal art. The exceptional new exhibition project that the Municipality of Brescia and the Brescia Musei Foundation with the National Roman Museum have promoted for the year of Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture: The Boxer and Victory, aka the Boxer at Rest, from the National Roman Museum and the Winged Victory, two extraordinary bronzes from the Hellenistic and Roman periods, both recently revamped, will be exhibited together for the first time in Brescia, in the Brixia Capitolium. Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia.
The ambitious project, presented to the public on 12 July, signs a new precious piece of the enhancement and redevelopment program that the Brescia Musei Foundation is developing around the archaeological area of Roman Brixia, which began with the installation in the Capitolium della Vittoria Alata and which this year, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the excavations which brought to light the archaeological heritage of the city, opens up particularly significant scenarios. Parallel to the well-established Archaeological Stages itinerary, which sees works by contemporary artists alongside finds from Ancient Brescia, inaugurated with the works of Francesco Vezzoli, continued with Emilio Isgrò and which this year will see the participation of Fabrizio Plessi, Brescia Musei, with Il Pugile and the Victory, extends towards the founding art of European culture, sealing the relationship between the Brescian Victory and Hellenistic and Roman culture.
