October 25, 1956 represents one of the most intense moments of the Hungarian revolution. On that occasion, thousands of citizens gathered at Astoria, a central crossroads in Budapest, to welcome with national flags some Soviet tanks. Unfortunately, shortly after the symbolic greeting, the armed forces opened fire near the Parliament, causing dozens of deaths, hundreds of injuries, and marking the turning point of the uprising, with repression becoming open and violent.
State museums and public spaces: museums like the House of Terror and others offer free admission, while the monument and exhibition In Memoriam October 25, 1956 at Kossuth Lajos Square (at the Parliament) constitute a visual and commemorative reference point dedicated to that day.
