The Giovanni Verga House Museum is located in Catania in the historic city center and was the home of the famous writer Giovanni Verga. The house is located inside a bourgeois building of the late eighteenth century. In 1940 it was declared a national monument and today it is a real museum. Here Verga spent his childhood with his family and still retains the original furnishings today. The writer's library is located in his private study and consists of more than 2600 volumes. Copies of Verga's manuscripts are also exhibited inside the display cases, as the originals are in the library of the University of Catania. The museum itinerary leads the viewer to discover the house in its intimate details and the so-called Italian Verismo, of which Verga was the precursor. Very particular and original is the large lectern that overlooks the large window in the living room. Here the artist used to write his poems and essays observing the daily life of people directly on Via Sant'Anna. On the walls hang paintings, prints and engravings by artists who are friends of Verga. Finally, a small dining room houses some historical relics: a large wooden tray and a precious coffee table.
