Civic Museum of Castel Bolognese

The Civic Museum of Castel Bolognese aims to play an active role in the life of the area that hosts it, preserving the memory of its community, the history of the city and the works of artists. The museum institution of Castel Bolognese is not a place of conservation for its own sake, but also an instrument of cultural transmission and requalification. The museum heritage is made available to the entire community, including for teaching and long life learning. The civic museum is divided into three distinct sections: artistic, historical and archaeological. Particularly interesting is the so-called "Tomb of the warrior of Ponte del Castello": it is a burial of the sixth century BC, found in 2011 at the Ponte del Castello with a rich set consisting of ceramic pottery, weapons and ornaments. Among the relics of Garibaldi, a saber, a hat and a photo of Garibaldi. There are also small bronzes, stone fragments, domestic ceramics and a small collection of papal and Italian coins. The main nuclei for quality and quantity are represented by the works of Giovanni Piancastelli and Giuseppe Guidi: the first with numerous pen drawings and oil paintings, the second with extremely original etchings, drawings and enamels on copper. In addition to the medals and plaques of Giovanni Bernardi, sculptor and engraver active in the sixteenth century, there are some rare works by the painter and patriot Sebastiano Fanelli. The activity of the sculptor Angelo Biancini is documented by a large ceramic Annunciation, some bronzes and a gilded plaster of a mother figure. Other artists present are Giovanni Antonio Antolini, Cassiano Balducci, Mario Morelli and Fausto Ferlini. The collection of the Castellan luthier Nicola Utili is also interesting.
