From 10 March to 31 October 2019
The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 110th anniversary of the birth of Enrico Pirajno di Mandralisca (1809 - 2019).
The exhibition is the result of an important collaboration between the Mandralisca Cultural Foundation, the Regional Gallery of Palazzo Abatellis, the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity and MondoMostre, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cefalù.
The two panels painted by Giorgio Vasari , depicting "The fall of the manna" , come from the collection of Palazzo Abatellis and were made in 1545 by the Arezzo painter for the refectory of Santa Maria di Montoliveto in Naples; they arrived in Palermo in 1828, a gift from Francesco I di Borbone for the nascent art gallery of the city.
The two works are placed in dialogue, in the picture gallery of Palazzo Mandralisca, with the precious 1681 edition of Vasari's text “Of the Lives of the most excellent painters, sculptors, and architects”, which is part of the Mandralisca Library. The organization and institutional relations are due to the commitment of Dr. Laura Gattuso (Vice-president of the Mandralisca Cultural Foundation), while the scientific curatorship and teaching aids are by Dr. Evelina De Castro, director of the Regional Gallery of Sicily in Palazzo Abatellis, and to Dr. Rosalia Liberto, of the Board of Directors of the Mandralisca Foundation
The exhibition MANNA DAL CIELO expands the cultural offer of the Mandralisca Foundation, thus testifying how the synergies between cultural institutions can create virtuous paths for the best use of the Sicilian artistic heritage.
