Palazzo de 'Mayo is a historic residence located in the heart of the city of Chieti. The Palazzo is considered a jewel of Italian neoclassical architecture and today houses the museum of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna of the Banco di Napoli Foundation. The museum contains a large collection consisting of paintings on wood and canvas and sculptures from the nineteenth century to the contemporary age. A very important nucleus is made up of the works of the Abruzzo artists Francesco Paolo Michetti, Basilio Cascella and Costantino Barbella. From the twentieth century, however, we remember the collection "In the sign of the Image" made up of 130 paintings and sculptures by 90 different artists. The Palace also houses the library of the Foundation which has a significant nucleus of volumes and multimedia documents related to the themes of literature, photography, music and art. Some volumes deal with the history of Abruzzo art specifically on the history of Chieti and on the religious history of Abruzzo. The Palace hosts conferences, seminars, cultural events and temporary exhibitions related to local contemporary art.
