Municipal Art Collections of Bologna

The Municipal Art Collections of Bologna are located in the rooms of Palazzo d'Accursio in the historic center of Bologna . The rich collection includes not only paintings, from the Middle Ages to the present day, but also art objects, furniture, porcelain, fabrics, lace, embroidery, miniatures and important wooden crucifixes .

The collections, in fact, are configured as a furnished museum , divided into rooms that keep the original decorations intact and in which the furniture is the protagonist. Of considerable value is the Urban Room , dating back to 1630 and restored in 2013-14. It is one of the most important works of the Bolognese Baroque and the heraldic decoration that covers its walls, consisting of 188 coats of arms and three figurative scenes, has also made it known as the Hall of Coat of Arms .

More than two hundred works are exhibited in the twenty rooms of the Municipal Art Collections of Bologna. We find Signorelli, Tintoretto, Artemisia Gentileschi, Nuvolone, Pietro Longhi on display nationally and in the figurative context of Emilia with Vitale da Bologna, Lippo di Dalmasio, Jacopo di Paolo and many others. The collections also contain Ruth (1835), one of the masterpieces of Francesco Hayez and Mercurio gives Paris the golden apple , the splendid painting by Donato Creti. The Farnese Chapel with frescoes by Prospero Fontana is also of considerable importance and beauty.
