Organized by the MIC Foundation - International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza together with the Ginori Museum Foundation, the exhibition "Alchimia Ginori 1737-1896. Art and technique in manufacturing" reinterprets two centuries of the history of the Doccia manufacturing, proposing a new narrative of the evolution of ceramics in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Through a wide selection of works and artifacts from the collections of the Ginori Museum and the MIC, the exhibition curated by Oliva Rucellai, Rita Balleri stages the dialectic between creativity and the limits imposed by the material, between aesthetic research and scientific progress, between tradition and the changing tastes of the clientele.
The story begins in the first half of the 18th century, when Carlo Ginori, passionate about chemistry, founded the homonymous manufacturing company and personally dedicated himself to the search for the recipe for porcelain paste.
The journey then unfolds in different sections dedicated to porcelain sculptures and the progressive enrichment of pictorial decoration and the color palette; to the innovations of Carlo Leopoldo Ginori (inventor of the four-story furnace), Giusto Giusti (the chemist of the Manufacturing who rediscovered the recipe for the luster of ancient Renaissance maiolica) and the first artistic directors of the manufacturing company.
The exhibition concludes with the transition of Ginori into a true industry and with a look towards the 20th century, when the newborn Richard-Ginori will found much of its prosperity on the production of electro-technical porcelain, usually not exhibited in a museum context.
