With the installation "Subtle conversations of states of mind," the French artist Léa Renard won the Faenza Prize in the under 35 category (supported by Cersaie) and two months of residency in Faenza at MIC Faenza to work on a new project titled "Double Jeu," which will open in the Projetc Room – the museum's exhibition space dedicated to special projects – on November 29, 2025, at 5:30 pm.
During her residency in Faenza – exploring the collections of MIC and visiting the decoration and molding workshops in the city – Léa Renard was fascinated by Faenza maiolica. The new work stems from research on traditional ceramic forms and, at the same time, experimentation with the clays typical of this area, which – unlike those she was used to – require low-temperature firing.
"Double Jeu" (Double Game) arises from the encounter between history and the present. - comments Léa Renard - In Faenza, ceramics are a living heritage, a territory where every gesture, every form, carries the memory of past centuries. Creating here means accepting that nothing can exist without this past; each piece becomes the site of a perpetual dialogue between what has been and what could be. Shapes, textures, and volumes play with our perceptions, blur appearances, and challenge what we think we know. What seems old can be new, what appears fragile endures, what was stable collapses. But the concept of the 'Double Game' is not limited to objects. It also resides in the relationship between the viewer and the works. It is a space where play becomes the driving force: playing with contrasts, surprises, and illusions reveals that every gesture is simultaneously heritage and invention, memory and the present moment."
