Sukkot is one of the main recurrences of the Jewish calendar: it refers to the biblical episode in which the Jews remained in the desert after leaving Egypt, celebrates the permanence and survival in the desert thanks to the providence of Heaven and the precariousness of life - represented from the Sukkot, the huts they built - but also the strong link with the rhythms of the earth, environmental sustainability and the centrality of water.

From 14 October 2022 to 5 February 2023 , with Under the same sky exhibition curated by the director Amedeo Spagnoletto and Sharon Reichel, the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah-MEIS explores the Jewish holiday of the huts and its many facets.

The exhibition is dedicated to the religious and traditional aspects and to the close connection between Nature and artistic expressions that this anniversary generates, with an original path that invites visitors to actively participate, interacting with what they see and hear, thus contributing to the enrichment of meanings of the exhibition.

Even today, Jewish families build in the gardens of the synagogues or in the terraces of their houses the huts with roofs covered with branches in which they spend all seven days of celebration, sharing meals with numerous guests. The ritual is marked by the lulav, composed of a palm branch, three myrtle branches, two willow branches and a cedar, used during prayers with fascinating symbolic meanings.

The setting - by the architect Giulia Gallerani - reflects the values of the party: made for the most part with triple-wave cardboard, it is environmentally friendly and recyclable, and represented a real challenge. In fact, we wanted to decline the complex set of themes that Sukkot represents to propose an unusual and articulated exhibition path, which calls to intervene, to participate, to get involved, and to connect religious symbolism to references that in the contemporary world are acquiring ever greater importance. .
