The show

From 25 March 2021 until 18 April 2022 the museum hosts the exhibition entitled SETA.

The exhibition aims to tell the long and complex process that leads to the creation of the silk printed foulard, a perfect union of an extraordinary creative intuition and high industrial craftsmanship, through the example of the Salvatore Ferragamo maison, one of the Italian companies of fashion that, together with the tie, made this accessory one of the most recognizable signs of his style.

Until 1950 the name Ferragamo was synonymous with women's footwear. But the goal of Salvatore, the founder of the company, was to transform his brand into a fashion house that would dress the woman from foot to head. A dream that only came true after his death. It was one of the daughters, Fulvia, who started in the early seventies a continuous production of silk accessories, for women and men, characterized by prints made in Como with exclusive decorative subjects, especially flowers and exotic animals formed by a flower patchwork. This creative world has infinite references of inspiration: from oriental art to paintings of the twentieth century, from works of art preserved in many museums to ancient volumes of botany and natural sciences, which can be consulted in the rare rooms of many libraries or known through their latest reproductions. These multiple sources were redesigned and annotated on sheets, season after season, in the form of colorful collages that each time constituted the starting moodboard of the new creative theme. This is an immense amount of material, which was later preserved in the Ferragamo Archive. It is this particular way of collecting and elaborating ideas that constitutes the curatorial fil rouge of the set-up and of the entire exhibition itinerary, where printed fabrics, ties or scarves, are combined with the sources of inspiration for each motif: books, or paintings , vases or sculptures, all coming from museums or public collections and combined with preparatory drawings, color tests. A great wunderkammer that wants to mean how much the apparent simplicity of these silk prints hides a great conceptual and productive complexity, just like in a sleight of hand.
