Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Florence

The Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Florence is located in the historical and artistic heart of the Tuscan city of the same name. The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore dates back to 1296 with the great building project of the Cathedral of Florence. Many were the artists called for the realization of the most impressive work in all of Florence: Arnolfo di Cambio, Giotto, Andrea Pisano, Francesco Talenti and Filippo Brunelleschi, to whom we owe the dome.

The Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Florence was enriched with sculptures, minor arts (ivories, altars) and paintings , many of these are preserved today in the 28 museum rooms . The sculptures by Lorenzo Ghiberti made on the occasion of the competition won in 1401 for one of the doors of the Baptistery are part of the collection. Among the best known masters there are also Nanni di Banco, Niccolò Lamberti, Ciuffagni and Andrea Lazzaro Cavalcanti known as Buggiano .

Objects for liturgical celebrations such as censers, sprinklers, crosses, chalices and relics are part of the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence . Some relics were commissioned to Antonio del Pollaiolo and Maso Finiguerra . The museum concentrates faith, art and history and is unmatched in the world for its wealth of value and number of works of art.
