The Railway Museum of Asturias opened in 1998 and today houses one of the most important railway collections in Spain. The museum focuses on the conservation, research and dissemination of the industrial history of Asturias, whose main source of income was the railway. The museum tells the story of the industrial revolution up to the present.

The Railway Museum of Asturias is declared a museum within the autonomous community of Asturias and, together with the Citadel of Celestino Solar, is part of the Industrial Museums area of the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Education and the Popular University of Gijón / Xixón.

The museum, located within the Natahoyo neighborhood, is known for organizing temporary exhibitions on railways and industrial heritage, enriched with related content. The Railway Museum of Asturias also has a documentation center that deals with the collection of graphic and documentary testimonies, fundamental for the knowledge of industrial history and the world of the railway. All the material in the collection, for a total of two thousand pieces (including one hundred rolling stock, locomotives, wagons and carriages) is divided into a series of thematic units between the old station building and the tracks, the permanent exhibition, the beach of the track and the multipurpose warehouse.
