Campa Torres Archaeological-Natural Park

The Archaeological-Natural Park of Campa Torres is located in Capo Torres, a few kilometers from the center of Gijón. It is part of the archaeological museums of Gijón with the Roman Baths of Campo Valdés and the Roman Villa of Veranes, all dependent on the Municipality of Gijón.

According to historians, it dates back to the 6th-5th century BC and was born as a center of metallurgy. Later, in the first century AD it was Romanized only to be abandoned with the foundation of Gijon. The park protects, conserves and protects the archaeological remains recovered in the excavations. Thanks to the archaeological park, the visitor can know and deepen the origins of the city of Gijón

The Park structures consist of three main buildings: reception, museum and lighthouse. The museum in particular exploits part of a former coastal artillery site. Inside there is a permanent exhibition (a journey through the history of the city from its origins to the Roman era with materials from the excavations, models, texts, reproductions and illustrative images), a temporary exhibition hall together with laboratories and a meeting room.

The Cabo Torres Lighthouse dates back to 1923. Here too it is possible to visit a permanent exhibition on the history of the building. There is also a Library and the "Manuel Fernández-Miranda" Documentation Center. The park offers an archaeological itinerary of thirteen points, an ornithological observatory and a lookout with sweeping views over the port of El Musel and Gijón.

The actual collection consists of a selection of the movable remains located in the site of the fort, as well as other sites in the municipality of Gijón such as the burial necropolis of Monte Deva, the Roman wall of Cimavilla, the castle of Curiel (Peñaferruz) and the Roman villa of Veranes.
