Roman Baths of Campo Valdés

The Museum of the Roman Baths of Campo Valdés was inaugurated in 1995. It is located in the old town of Gijón and is part of the archaeological museums of Gijón, together with the Archaeological-Natural Park of Campa Torres and the Roman Villa of Veranes. two areas: an informative one offers on the thermal baths in the Roman world and on the functioning and history of the public baths of Gijón. The visit continues with a display case containing the most representative archaeological materials recovered in excavations such as building materials, ceramics, glass, bone remains, etc. A model of the heating system (hypocaust) allows us to understand how it works. The baths also retain some original rooms and pieces such as the round brick columns of the Sudatiana room, the first spa building, the atrium of the apodyterium, the cold room with the frigidarium tub, the hot room of the tepidarium and the hot room of the caldarium. In addition to the musealization of the remains, the museum collection consists of a selection of the most representative material remains that appeared in the archaeological excavations. The collection includes both the typical construction materials of the baths and therefore bricks, tiles, pilae, lateric tubules and also fragments of columns, remains of moldings and everyday objects.
