The exhibition "You are here" was inaugurated on the past 27th of June, part of the program "GO! 2025", Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025. Organized by Erpac Fvg - Regional Entity for the Cultural Heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the exhibition is an ideal journey through places and memories of the Gorizia territory from the 18th century to World War I, with some border crossings: a path made of objects, artworks, photographs, documents, and books that tell a story full of facets, presented to the public through a selection of significant elements with high symbolic value from the collections of the Provincial Museums. "You are here" is hosted at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein in Gorizia and will be open for visits until May 3, 2026.

The idea of the exhibition stems from the desire to define the identity of a territory through the collections that have accumulated over the centuries in museums, libraries, and archives: in particular, the identity of a multicultural territory like Gorizia is by its nature multifaceted and indefinable, and its cultural heritage serves as a litmus test. Hence, the narrative of the territory through the staging of the collections of the Provincial Museums of Gorizia. Visitors to "You are here" will thus discover multiple facets of the city: from its institutional, political, and economic history, preserved in the documents of the Provincial Historical Archive, to the multilingual literary heritage of the Provincial Library, which testifies to the editorial prestige of the territory, chosen by figures like Giacomo Casanova and Rodolfo Coronini. The visible face of Gorizia takes shape in the Photographic Library and the Art Gallery, which preserve the most significant expressions of local artistic production, including the famous works of the Gorizia artist Giuseppe Tominz, along with family collections and those of religious orders.

The geopolitical position before the County and then the Province of Gorizia is illustrated by imperial parchments and a series of geographical maps from the Provincial Historical Archive. The city's face is instead told through maps, paintings, and especially through photographs and postcards that make up the rich heritage of the Photographic Library. An extraordinary document of the agricultural landscape of the territory is found in the Art Gallery and consists of a painting commissioned at the end of the 19th century to Hugo Charlemont by the Imperial Royal Agricultural Society of Gorizia, depicting the fruits of Gorizia in their infinite varieties, highly appreciated throughout Europe: cherries, plums, apples, pears, raspberries, currants, peaches, medlars, apricots, lemons, melons, grapes, walnuts, chestnuts. The painting was a gift for the President of the society, Count Francesco Coronini of the San Pietro branch, on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of his presidency, which began in 1870: hence the accuracy in the almost photographic rendering of the fruit, skillfully arranged according to the different ripening periods. Gorizia is a border territory and therefore multicultural and multilingual, as revealed by endless and multifaceted clues: from cooking recipes to theater posters, through the rich multilingual literary production and excellent schools, such as those of the Jesuits, Ursulines, and the legendary Staatsgymnasium.

The artistic panorama also boasts prominent figures such as Giuseppe Tominz, Vittorio Bolaffio, Josef Maria Auchentaller, Tullio Crali, Veno Pilon, and Luigi Spazzapan, not to mention a group of powerfully innovative artists like the patrol of Julian futurists. An example is Tominz's Self-portrait with his brother Francesco, a splendid image of brotherhood, symbolically alluding to the union of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, jointly European Capital of Culture in 2025. The artists' biographies also highlight important connections between Gorizia and the art capitals such as Rome, Vienna, Paris, Munich, and Venice, outlining a territory fully integrated into European culture. The closing on Zoran Music connects the exhibitions "You are here" and "Zoran Music. The Zurich room, the works, and the studio," the latter also on display at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein until November 2, 2025, and also part of the "GO! 2025" program.

The setup of "You are here" includes explanatory texts available in the four historical languages of Gorizia (Italian, Slovenian, Friulian, and German) to offer an open and plural view of the cultural reality of the territory.
