The Smith Art Gallery in Halifax is an art gallery and public library, also known as "The Rydings". The gallery was built by Councilor William Smith and donated, along with his art collection, to the community in 1907. The gallery, part of the Calderle Museums, houses an exhibition of oil paintings at the front. Here are exhibited works by artists such as Atkinson Grimshaw, Marcus Stone and Thomas Sydney Cooper. Instead the rear gallery hosts temporary exhibitions, which can cover a wide variety of themes: local artists, traveling exhibitions, photography, mixed media, sculpture. This always ensures a rich and heterogeneous proposal for visitors.
