The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art

The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome , through its collections of about 20,000 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations , offers a rich representation of Italian artistic culture from the nineteenth century to the present day.

The National Gallery with the current staging of the collections - conceived as an exhibition on the theme of time - goes beyond the usual chronological trace and branches out into simultaneous paths in which the works are juxtaposed for assonances, contrasts, references and citations.

Together with the great names in the history of art, the works of contemporary Italian and foreign artists allow an opening of the gaze to different or unexpected stimuli and suggestions. Rereading the works in situations other than those in which they were originally formed, the possible perspectives and interpretations multiply.

Among the names of artists - national and international - exhibited here are, among others: Klimt, Pollock, Burri, Canova , Mondrian , Capogrossi, Pascali, de Chirico, Licini, Monet , Duchamp etc.

The 1911 building by Cesare Bazzani is also the protagonist of the aforementioned reinterpretation, establishing a dialogue between present and past: an almost archaeological method has brought it back to its original splendor and in an immediate relationship with the present.

The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art naturally undergoes continuous phases of transformation and renewal, also in the light of the new experiences and critical readings that become necessary over time. It therefore stands as a place for meeting, research and discovery , inviting reflection on contemporary languages and exhibition practices, on what the role of the museum is in our present, and on what common bases this relationship with its public can be woven.
